DALLAS -- Dallas Semiconductor (NYSE:DS) announced the DS1846 NV Tri-Potentiometer, Memory and MicroMonitor, a highly integrated chip that enhances laser control and design flexibility in optical transceiver modules. The DS1846 combines three linear taper potentiometers with nonvolatile memory and a CPU supervisor in reduced TSSOP packaging. Separately, each of these features contributes to control within optical systems. Integrating them in a small chip saves board space and cuts cost and procurement delays, expediting product development.

Patrick Fedele, product manager for the digital potentiometer product line, said, "The DS1846 is Dallas' latest addition to a family of control devices optimized for gigabit optical transceivers. The DS1845, released earlier this year, was the first chip to integrate EEPROM with dual potentiometers. The DS1846 delivers more flexible control with the third potentiometer and micromonitor."
