SHENZHEN, China -- ZTE Corporation, a leading global provider of telecommunications equipment and network solutions, announced today that it has signed a general contract with TELUS, the second largest Canadian telecommunications operator, to supply 3G terminals. The first batch of CDMA EVDO data cards has been shipped and will be available in major Canadian cities this month. This marks another important breakthrough for ZTE in the European and American high-end markets, the most advanced 3G markets in the world, following its cooperation with top European operators such as France Telecom and Hutchison Whampoa. North America is regarded as the most difficult market to break into and the move is a significant milestone in ZTE's overseas expansion.

ZTE's 3G terminal products, including WCDMA handsets and data cards, HSDPA and EVDO data cards, have achieved volume sales in developed countries worldwide. This has consolidated its position as the world's leading supplier of 3G terminals.

Ye Weimin, vice president of ZTE, said, 'As 3G terminal products enter the Canadian market, the company has laid a solid foundation to explore the North American markets. We have a long term strategy for Canada and the shipment of EVDO data cards to the country is the first step of in-depth cooperation between ZTE and TELUS.'

EVDO high speed wireless data service represents a major revolution for telecom operators. Higher data rate can be achieved with this technology while the high quality of voice is also guaranteed. In addition, the large capacity of the EVDO system allows more users on a network, increasing the potential of operators' profitability. The EVDO data cards supplied to TELUS this time prove ZTE's leadership in 3G technology. Previously, the MF330 3.6M HSDPA data cards have been supplied to mainstream European operators, the first large order for this device in the world.

ZTE has made continuous advances in the deployment of both 3G systems and terminal products in recent years. So far, ZTE 3G core network devices have been used in significant quantities on 2G/3G networks in more than 10 overseas countries including Libya, Tunisia, Tajikistan, Brunei, Nepal and Nigeria, and have passed tests set by France Telecom and Telefonica. Also in the 3G terminal sector, ZTE has supplied WCDMA data cards in volumes to European and Asian operators since April last year. As a vendor of 3G terminal products to Hutchison Whampoa, it has achieved outstanding performance in 3G terminal testing carried out by nearly 20 operators in Italy, Israel, Germany and Singapore.
