Synergy Research Group says the worldwide wireless LAN market grew 40% in 2003; Linksys, D-Link, and Netgear all have record quarters

PHOENIX -- In 2003 the Worldwide Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN) market grew 40 percent 2002.

According to market analysis by Synergy Research Group (SRG), Enterprise WLAN equipment sales were up nine percent, while SOHO/Home WLAN Equipment sales grew 66 percent. Additionally, the SOHO/Home segment represented 65 percent of the total WLAN market.

“In 2003, the overall WLAN market was characterized by an increase in Enterprise adoption and unabated growth in the Consumer segment,” said Aaron Vance, Senior Analyst at the Synergy Research Group. “From both perspectives, growth was driven by the maturation of Wi-Fi in terms of performance and security, the need for mobile connectivity, the proliferation of embedded mobile devices, falling prices, and a general economic recovery.”
