CANNES, France -- Wavium AB, a provider of intelligent optical networks based on optical crossconnects, today announced WX4000 which extends its family of flexible and cost-effective building blocks for optical networks. WX4000 is the first in a series of OEO optical crossconnects offering in-service scalability from 60-240 ports. Recent projects show that Wavium can reduce crossconnect costs by 40 percent.

Wavium’s portfolio now comprises the 16 ports optical crossconnects WX1000, WX4000 and above all the extremely capable management system WaveMasterTM. Wavium supports all physical topologies using a combination of 1:1 and 1:N protection and fast dynamic meshed restoration, including a combination of these in the same network.

“Wavium hereby offers a set of extremely flexible solutions suiting a wide range of network types and sizes, and our optical crossconnects come with a very competitive price tag”, said Wavium CEO Anders Elgemyr. “Wavium crossconnects provides a perfect boost to existing congested SDH networks. Studies with leading European operators show a reduction of crossconnect costs by 40%. Also, we enable new business opportunities in metro networks - the keywords here are wavelength services and Gigabit Ethernet at low cost!”

A Wavium network handles wavelengths transparently across the network and assures a smooth transition towards the emerging ASTN-based infrastructures including the GMPLS and G.709 standards.
