GUILDFORD, U.K. -- Volantis Systems, a leading provider of multi-channel software solutions, has announced the launch of the Volantis Mariner® Message Preparation Server, designed to bring device awareness to server-originated MMS and rich media messaging formats. The solution overcomes the inherent differences between mobile devices (such as display size, browser type and audio capabilities), ensuring messages sent by mobile operators and content providers are correctly formatted and rendered to suit the receiving device."The arrival of Multimedia Messaging Services (MMS) technology is enabling the delivery of vibrant and exciting content to mobile subscribers," explains Mark Watson, CTO at Volantis. "However, there are major differences between devices which means there is a risk when sending messages across large user groups; a message that is displayed correctly on one device won't necessarily appear the same on another. Mobile operators are looking to MMS to deliver immediate revenue streams across their 2.5G and 3G networks. Poor presentation can have an immediate impact on user experience and hamper its growth as a key mobile data service. Content providers and operators can't afford to disappoint their subscribers by delivering paid-for services at quality levels below their expectations."Mariner Message Preparation Server uses the core policy-based rendering technology deployed by Volantis in its flagship product, Mariner® Multi Channel Server. Both products are based on a Java platform that optimises the presentation of content for each device. Message Preparation Server builds on this technology to provide the same capabilities for the creation of rich media messages over mobile networks. It includes support for multiple message types, including; MMS, SMS and HTML-formatted email, allowing messages to be generated according to the capabilities of the messaging channel as well as the recipient's device.Volantis Systems Ltd.
