BEIJING -- Bandspeed Inc. announced today that UP Technologies (China) Ltd. has selected the company's Gypsy(tm) wireless LAN infrastructure technology to build wireless switch access point (AP) boxes for major Chinese carriers. This agreement strongly positions Bandspeed in the rapidly growing Asian market and provides UP Tech with a unique wireless switch technology, helping to make them the leading wireless communications equipment provider to communication service providers and large enterprises.
"Integrating Bandspeed's AP technology into our wireless communications equipment definitely gives us the edge over our competitors," said Steven Zhou, vice president of Wireless Solutions, for UP Tech. "We are not only a leading communications equipment provider in China, we also service customers worldwide that will benefit from the revolutionary Gypsy wireless switch technology. UP Tech is moving quickly to get products with the Gypsy technology into the hands of customers that are looking to improve the way wireless networks are deployed, managed and serviced in a variety of application environments."
Gypsy utilizes wireless LAN spatial division multiple access (SDMA) switch technology. Its revolutionary design places the switching function at the AP, providing a form factor similar to that of conventional APs. The antenna is a compilation of six sectors that behave as independent coverage areas. It can provide up to six times greater throughput than conventional APs and up to three kilometers LOS (line-of-sight) range. Each sector is independent and agnostic with regards to the 802.11 a/b/g technologies as well as to the transmit power. MSRP for the 940K is $375, which consists of the antenna and software. The 940K is sampling now and will be in production by year-end.
"Bandspeed is delighted to have UP Tech as a customer," said Walt Thirion, CEO of Bandspeed Inc. "Working with an equipment provider such as UP Tech provides Bandspeed an excellent opportunity to evolve the wireless infrastructure in the rapidly expanding Asian market. We're very excited about the opportunities we have with UP Tech, and together we will help shape the future of wireless communications in the service provider and enterprise markets."
