Turkcell Launches MMS
Turkish carrier Turkcell enhances data service offering with launch of multimedia messaging service

ISTANBUL -- Turkcell, today announced the commercial launch of MMS (Multi Media Messaging Service) in Turkey. Turkcell becomes one of the first mobile telecoms operators in Europe to launch the next generation of mobile messaging services. MMS is an evolution of SMS, which allows images and sounds in a variety of combinations, to be added to a basic text message. Turkcell subscribers, through their MMS enabled phones, will be able to combine images, video text, graphics and voice data into a single message that offers a greatly enhanced user experience. The pricing of the service will be a set price per message, regardless of the amount of data, which means that Turkcell subscribers will know exactly how much it costs to send a message. Receiving a message from another mobile user is free of charge. For the time being for promotional purposes, the service will be free of charge to subscribers. After the promotional period, Turkcell intends to charge approximately $0.30 per message. Approximately, 10% of Turkcell's revenues are currently derived from SMS and value added services. Data services have proven to be an excellent source of revenue, and Turkcell intends to further benefit from the trend toward data services with the launch of this new messaging service. TurkCell
