Tellium to expand its Aurora product line with new multiservice transport switches, taking the company beyond the long-haul core
September 2, 2003
OCEANPORT, N.J. -- Tellium, Inc.(Nasdaq: TELM) announced today it is expanding its Aurora(TM) product family with the Aurora MTX, a series of new multi-service transport switches that will address carrier needs beyond the core of long-haul networks.
The new products will leverage the intelligence of the award winning Aurora(TM) optical switches and StarNet(TM) software to address the specific needs of metropolitan and regional networks in markets around the world. The Aurora MTX line of multi-service transport switches will eliminate the need for separate broadband and wideband DCSs, ADMs and Ethernet switches, supplying unified transport and switching for both legacy TDM and new data services.
Carriers continue to be challenged by significantly constrained capital budgets, while at the same time traffic on their networks continues to grow. Tellium's new multi-service transport switches enable carriers to cap expenditures for single function legacy equipment, while enhancing the network with multi-service systems at a significantly lower cost compared to competing products in the marketplace.
"About a year ago, we started working closely with many tier-one carriers around the world concerning the challenges facing their networks," said Harry Carr, Tellium's chairman and chief executive officer. "Their input helped our world class research and development team design new products to meet current and future needs in optical switching. Today, we are expanding the Aurora family to include a line of multi-service transport switches. By using the latest optical and switching components, we are able to offer multiple services within a single platform with end-to-end management in a significantly cost-effective way."
The Aurora MTX line will support both ring and mesh topologies and handle aggregation and transport of a full array of TDM and data services from 1.5 Mbp/s to 10Gb/s, including support for gigabit Ethernet services. Tellium will provide additional details of the first member of the extended Aurora MTX product line within the next several weeks.
