Atlantique Telecom selects Teligent to provide pre-paid mobile, messaging and SMSC services in four African markets

PARIS -- Teligent announced today an agreement, through its French subsidiary, with leading African mobile operator Atlantique Telecom for the delivery of a complete network solution for the basic value added services in four different African markets. The initial order was received in the third quarter of 2003 and will be delivered in phases during the beginning of 2004.
The now announced order is considered of strategic importance for Teligent as it includes a total packaging of Mobile Pre-Paid, Messaging and SMS services as for growth markets in an expanding region. Atlantique Telecom is a member of the Atlantique Group of Côte d'Ivoire and is active as mobile operator in five African markets under the trademark Telecel. The new order is for identical installations in four of these local markets; Burkina Faso, Gabon, Niger and Togo.
"In this competitive market, if you want to keep your leadership alive, you cannot afford not to meet customers more demanding requirements," said Joël Cadier, Chief Executive Officer of Atlantique Telecom. "We realised that our existing equipment could not help us get where we ought to be. A board resolution allowed us to send out a tender. We received four replies from majors prepaid equipment suppliers. Our engineers spent a lot of time and effort whilst gathered in Libreville, Gabon, going through the proposals. Teligent came out with the best offer in terms of cutting-edge technology, quality, pricing, customisation and maintenance service."
Teligent has a long record of successful installations and a prominent position within the business niche of value added services and is now continuing its global expansion strategy.
