AMSTERDAM -- Versatel Nederland B.V. announced today that it has signed an agreement with Telfort for the provisioning of mobile services. Under the agreement, Versatel will offer mobile services under its own brand name to its customers in The Netherlands via an enhanced service provider (ESP) model. The ESP model means that Telfort will manage and maintain the mobile network, including services such as SMS and voicemail, and Versatel will manage its own SIM cards, send its own invoices to the end customer and will manage its own customer service. As part of the agreement, Versatel and Telfort have also agreed that Versatel will have the option to migrate to a mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) in the future.

Versatel will use the coming months to launch a trial service offering. Over the course of the second quarter of 2004, Versatel expects to be able to launch the first commercial mobile service offering to its customers in The Netherlands.

Raj Raithatha, Chief Executive Officer of Versatel, stated: "Versatel is enthusiastic about the cooperation we are starting with Telfort for our provision of mobile services in The Netherlands. A mobile offering has been the only missing link in our product portfolio and we have spent a good deal of time investigating the right way to address the market. In Telfort, we have found a strong and flexible partner that owns one of the highest quality mobile networks in The Netherlands. This new product launch will allow us to leverage our position in the fixed line market and truly become the leading alternative integrated operator in The Netherlands for all of our customers telecommunications needs."

Ton aan de Stegge, Chief Executive Officer of Telfort, declared: "Wholesale mobile services are one of the core activities of the new Telfort and we are the leading operator in The Netherlands in this respect. We are therefore very pleased that we can welcome one of the biggest telecommunications companies of The Netherlands as our customer. Additionally, Versatel is a company that fits to us by nature: a competitor of the monopolist and always eager to be just a little faster and smarter than competition. We are proud that, in addition to our two large existing wholesales customers, we are now able to welcome Versatel."
