ESPOO, Finland -- Porta (Conecel - Consorcio Ecuatoriano de Telecomunicaciones) has awarded a prepaid system expansion contract to Tecnomen. This expansion will significantly improve the Ecuadorian mobile operators prepaid capacity. The project started during the third quarter of 2004. The delivery also includes Prepaid Calling Card solution.

Porta, a subsidiary of América Móvil, is the largest mobile communications operator in Ecuador. They have been using Tecnomens IN prepaid service using CAMEL Phase 2 and IS-41P Intelligent Network (IN) protocols for GSM and TDMA networks respectively since September of 2002.

We are very pleased to continue working with Porta," said Mr Oscar Fernandez, Managing Director, Tecnomen Latin America. Expansion of their existing prepaid system is necessary as their subscriber base continues to grow. This new deal will increase the capacity of their prepaid system and allow them to deploy new services."

"We are impressed to see how rapidly Porta has increased their customer base. We are very happy to support their growth by helping them to offer reliable and flexible services to their prepaid customers," continues Mr Fernandez.

With the help of the feature-rich Tecnomen Prepaid platform, Porta can selectively group and target services to meet the needs of their specific market segments. Tecnomen Prepaid does not impose any restrictions irrespective of SIM card or handset type and simultaneously supports different protocols, including TDMA, GSM and CDMA. It supports SMS charging and roaming, allowing subscribers to benefit from a prepaid service whilst travelling abroad.
