ACTON, Mass. -- Tatara Systems, the leader in SIP-based femtocell convergence, today announced that Doug Tucker has joined the company as Chief Technology Officer, responsible for setting the company’s overall technology direction and leading Tatara’s efforts in defining industry standards.

Tucker has been an innovator and thought leader in the VoIP industry, beginning with his participation in drafting the H.323 standard and extending through his most recent experience where, as CTO of Ubiquity Software, he led the repositioning of their SIP application server toward IMS/3GPP applications and the creation of an innovative SOA delivery platform and execution environment. This new technology direction that Tucker set was the primary catalyst behind Ubiquity Software’s acquisition by Avaya in 2007.

“With more than 25 years of R&D expertise, Doug is a proven technology architect and visionary,” stated E.Y. Snowden, President and CEO of Tatara Systems. “His insight will be invaluable as Tatara enables network operators to accelerate the development and delivery of new converged mobile services, utilizing Tatara’s SIP-based convergence server.”

Tucker’s career as a communications technologist has included leadership positions in both visionary architectural and product development roles at Ubiquity Software, MCK Communications, Videoserver, ClearOne, PictureTel, and Codex Corporation/Motorola. He has also served as a consultant specializing in VoIP product development for companies such as Siemens, Microsoft, and Intel.

“I am thrilled to be joining Tatara’s executive team,” said Tucker. “Tatara is uniquely positioned in enabling mobile operators to offer new SIP-based converged services, while preserving their investment in the provisioning, management, and billing for subscribers on their existing mobile core. I look forward to working with the team at Tatara, and contributing to the success of the company’s customers and partners.”
