HOLTSVILLE, N.Y. -- Symbol Technologies, Inc. (NYSE:SBL) , The Enterprise Mobility Company(TM), today announced that an arbitrator in New York City has issued a ruling in a licensing dispute between Symbol and Metrologic Instruments, Inc. Metrologic has been ordered to pay Symbol $11.6 million in past due royalties and interest. The royalty payments relate to certain Metrologic handheld bar code scanning products that are covered by a Symbol license. "We are pleased that the arbitrator agreed that Symbol was due royalty payments from Metrologic," said Peter Lieb, Symbol senior vice president and general counsel. "Symbol holds the strongest advanced data capture patent position in the industry. This decision reaffirms the strength of Symbol's intellectual property as it requires a competitor to pay reasonable royalties for use of our patented technology."
