Vyyo and StarHub team up to respond to a Request-for-Proposal for Singapore’s Next Gen NBN project, using Vyyo 3GHz Spectrum Overlay

NORCROSS, Ga. -- Vyyo Inc. (NASDAQ: VYYO), a supplier of broadband access equipment for cable and private wireless broadband network solutions, and StarHub, Singapore’s second largest info-communications company, have agreed to team up to respond to a Request-for-Proposal for Singapore’s Next Generation National Broadband Network (Next Gen NBN) project, using Vyyo 3GHz Spectrum Overlay.
According to the Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore (IDA), the Next Gen NBN will entrench Singapore's Infocomm hub status and open the doors to new economic opportunities, business growth and social vibrancy for the country. IDA suggests that Next Gen NBN will be capable of ultra high speeds of symmetric 1Gbps or more (see more details at IDA’s website: http://www.ida.gov.sg/News%20and%20Events/20060417173050.aspx?getPagetype=20).
Vyyo and StarHub will work together to facilitate a deployment of Vyyo 3GHz Spectrum Overlay within the existing StarHub hybrid fiber-coax (HFC) infrastructure, which passes one million homes. Vyyo Spectrum Overlay leverages higher frequencies on existing coaxial cable doubling downstream bandwidth and increasing upstream bandwidth by a factor of at least four. The combination of Vyyo’s Spectrum Overlay with DOCSIS 3.0 gives StarHub the most cost-effective market solution for delivering ultra high-speed data services as well as a clear migration path toward delivering more advanced services in the future.
StarHub has implemented the Vyyo solution, after intensive testing in the laboratory, followed by trials in the field. Using a pre-DOCSIS 3.0 CMTS and modem, StarHub and Vyyo successfully tested channel bonding of four downstream channels using Vyyo’s products. Later in 2007, StarHub plans to deploy Vyyo’s products in greenfield sites, in anticipation of its deployment of new services over Spectrum Overlay.
“As part of our on-going upgrade to deploy ultra-high broadband access with DOCSIS 3.0, we see that Vyyo’s Spectrum Overlay can effectively deliver the performance Singapore needs over our existing HFC infrastructure, in a more efficient manner,” said Thomas Ee, Senior Vice President for Cable, Fixed and IP Services, StarHub.
