FWA hits middle age and gets boring
Fixed wireless access was once a shadowy and poorly understood threat to Internet providers like cable companies. Now it's clearer and more mature, and no longer the unknown danger it once was.
Spectra-Physics debuts 2-W Raman fiber amplifier pump source with dual-wavelength output
March 13, 2002
MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA (March 13, 2002) – Spectra-Physics, a Thermo Electron business (NYSE:TMO), has introduced the DRM2000C. This new Raman fiber laser is the first available C Band Raman amplifier pump source to offer dual wavelength output (1425 nm and 1455 nm) with a combined power totaling 2 W. The electrically efficient, compact DRM2000C is primarily intended for use in systems with high channel counts over long transmission spans, such as submarine telecommunications systems. This pump source enables optimum gain flatness to be achieved over each span by simply adjusting the power ratio of the two output wavelengths. The DRM2000C consists of a fiber laser pumped by three 915 nm laser diodes. Cascaded Raman cavities shift the fiber laser output to the final two wavelengths, which are delivered through an SMF-28 optical fiber. The DRM2000C has been designed from the ground up to deliver high power and long lifetime. Fiber pigtailed pump diode, and laser and Raman cavities form a single, monolithic assembly. This use of entirely fusion spliced, fused silica fiber components ensures reliable and thermally insensitive connections. The pump sources themselves are proven, industry standard, 14-pin butterfly, hermetically packaged laser diodes, manufactured by Spectra-Physics.Spectra-Physics Inc.
