Designing chips with IBM for 40-Gbit/s optical networking gear; funding led by Storm Ventures and US Venture Partners

REDONDO BEACH, Calif. -- Sierra Monolithics, Inc, a high performance integrated circuit and microwave module provider, today announced completion of its first round of funding totaling $14.2 million. Lead investors include Storm Ventures and US Venture Partners. IBM, developing advanced microchips with Sierra Monolithics, is also an investor.

"We believe that Sierra Monolithics, through its expertise in microwave module design, silicon germanium (SiGe) circuit design and its access to IBM's advanced SiGe technology, is positioned to be the leader in 40 Gigabit per second integrated circuits," said Tae Hea Nahm, General Partner of Storm Ventures.
