SEOUL -- Pantech Group - the number two mobile phone manufacturer in South Korea - highlighted its plans to expand its market share in Europe and globally in 2006 with the demonstration of a wide range of sophisticated handsets, featuring pioneering yet easy to use applications, at CeBIT 2006, in Hannover, Germany.

Pantech’s participation in the exhibition is the latest stage in the company’s expansion into the European and global markets. Last year, Pantech opened a number of European offices in strategic markets, such as France, Germany and UK.

Sung-Kyu Lee, President & CEO of Pantech&Curitel Communications, Inc., said: “Europe is a crucial market for us, as we pursue our strategy of building our brand globally. By showcasing our newest and advanced handsets at CeBIT, we are emphasizing our long term commitment to the market and creating a sense of anticipation among European consumers”.

The 41 Pantech handsets on display will include two UMTS and 15 CDMA phones, as well as a range of GSM handsets.

One of the new handsets unveiled at the trade show is the G-3600V, the ultimate ‘music phone’, featuring an external touch wheel sensor to maximize its usability as a music player. The G-3600V features various music equalizers and supports WMA, MP3, AAC, AAC+ and AMR music formats. Incorporating a 1.3 mega pixel camera with a 4x zoom, it provides photo editing and video editing functionality.

Also on display is the G-6200, another fingerprint recognition phone, which was honored at the 2006 iF Design Awards. Pantech unveiled the GI-100, the world’s first GSM phone with fingerprint recognition technology in 2004. The G-6200 features a 2 mega pixel camera with a photo editing system, Bluetooth, MP3 player and speaker phone.

Another interesting model on show is the U-5000 UMTS handset, a semi-automatic slider with video telephony, Bluetooth, MP3 player and dual cameras with 1.3 mega pixel and VGA resolution each.

Included in the phone is a 1.9 inch QCIF 260K color TFT LCD and provides photo-editing function linked with MMS.
