ONEX Communications teams with industry leaders to deliver service-agile system silicon
August 21, 2001
BEDFORD, Mass. -- ONEX Communications, an emerging provider of System Silicon solutions that enable service-agile networks, today announced a series of key partnerships aimed at honing ONEX's advanced System Silicon technology for telecom equipment makers and their service provider customers. The partners add value at each step of the process, from concept to design to prototypes to production while reducing overall time to market and time to revenue. By leveraging relationships with Best-In-Class technology partners, ONEX is able to rapidly bring to market the next evolution in telecom products - service independence. "The future of telecom equipment is being shaped today via a confluence of advanced technologies developed by forward-looking innovators," said Deb Mielke, principal, Treillage Network Strategies. "By tapping into the complimentary expertise of its strategic technology partners, ONEX can quickly bring to market its groundbreaking System Silicon and offer equipment vendors the opportunity to architect truly service-independent products that can support current and future carrier services." ONEX is the first company to develop integrated SONET and SDH transmission, switching, routing, and control software into a System Silicon solution, the industry's first technology designed to be truly service-agile at the silicon level. With ONEX-enabled equipment, service providers will realize dramatically improved capital, operational and opportunity efficiency. System Silicon's dramatic improvements in flexibility enable service providers to rapidly provision and migrate customers to new services with point and click ease, without disrupting their existing service. "We are delighted to be working with a host of select Best-In-Class technology partners to realize our vision for advanced silicon-level integration and service agility," said Phil Nyborg, president, ONEX Communications. "By leveraging the specialized technology and rich expertise offered by our valued partners, ONEX is better able to meet the demand for service-independent equipment." Leading technology companies partnering with ONEX include: Electro-Space Fabricators, Inc. (ESF) - A leading design and fabrication house, ESF created a complete set of ProEngineering CAD file drawings and fabricated prototypes quickly for ONEX's reference design. By utilizing concurrent engineering between ESF, EEC and ONEX, ESF was able to create a design that was specific to ONEX's needs, while reducing cost at the early stages of development. EEC - EEC Inc. is an electromechanical design engineering and product development-consulting firm that worked closely with ONEX to determine the mechanical parameters of the backplane and daughter card components for the ONEX reference system. Used as foundation elements for the design and modeling of the system enclosure, the prototypes worked the first time, reducing overall costs and time for design and development. IBM - Partnering on multiple fronts with IBM, ONEX Communications System Silicon product is fabricated at the world-class IBM foundry in Burlington, Vermont, leveraging their state of the art facilities. ONEX is also leveraging IBM's leadership in the area of microelectronics for printed circuit board fabrication and serial-deserial (SERDES) logic technology. North East Systems Associates, Inc. (NESA) is an engineering design firm focused exclusively at the leading edge of signal integrity and platform design. ONEX partnered with NESA to develop a high-performance backplane and interconnect system that demonstrates the extensive capabilities of ONEX's System Silicon. OPNET- By utilizing OPNET's Modeler, ONEX can execute multiple simulations that give significant visibility into how ONEX System Silicon will perform in realistic customer scenarios, resulting in savings in capital, time and talent. Tensilica - Leveraging Tensilica's configurable and extensible processors, ONEX is able to build flexibility into their highly integrated System Silicon Solution. Xtensa technology delivers RTL-level speed with the significant added benefit of processor programmability. Verplex -ONEX leverages Verplex Systems' Conformal Equivalence Checker as part of a formal verification methodology, providing reliability for the final design implementation. Wind River Systems, Inc. (Nasdaq:WIND)--Working with Wind River, ONEX Communications System Silicon features integrated support for the market leading VxWorks(R) real-time operating system (RTOS).
