Nortel Approves RAD

RAD announces its modems have achieved interoperability approval to provide backhaul connectivity with Nortel GSM/GPRS radio access equipment

TEL AVIV -- RAD Data Communications has announced that its FOM-E1/T1 fiber optic modems and ASMi-52 SHDSL modem have achieved interoperability approval from Nortel* to provide backhaul connectivity with Nortel GSM/GPRS radio access equipment. Compatibility approval was achieved in Nortel's Wireless Interoperability Lab in Richardson, Texas.

"Interoperability approval for these two modems and the complementary nature of our products will enable customers to enjoy the benefits of full transparency, and help ensure that all features remain in tact."

RAD's FOM-E1/T1 fiber optic modem converts an E1/T1 electrical signal into an optical signal. After the conversion, the signal is transmitted over fiber optic cable, extending the E1/T1 service range up to 100 kilometers (62 miles). This reduces the cost of the fiber optical link when accessing SDH/SONET networks.

The ASMi-52 modem uses SHDSL technology to extend the range of digital interfaces. It features variable data rates up to 2.3 Mbps over 2-wire and 4.6 Mbps over 4-wire. Compliance with ITU and ETSI standards allows the ASMi-52 to work opposite third party TDM products that support SHDSL.
