RICHARDSON, Texas -- Benson Online (BOL) announces their personal, portable broadband wireless access network in Tanzania, using Ripwave(TM) products from Navini Networks, Inc., the leading provider of non-line-of-sight (NLOS), zero-install(TM) portable wireless broadband technology, and in partnership with Allplus, a Value-Added Reseller of Navini Networks products.
The network was deployed initially in Arusha near Mount Kilimanjaro, where it has surpassed capacity expectations, and in Dar Es Salaam where the network has grown to approximately 2,000 subscriber modems.
"We want to reach all potential subscribers as quickly as possible," said Naushad A. Mohammed, Managing Director of Benson Online. "We are focused on big urban centers like Arusha, Mawanza and Dar Es Salaam."
Benson is currently seeking a license from the Tanzanian government for voice services to be delivered as a future offering over the Navini network. "We anticipate substantial growth into 2006," added Mohammed.
"Benson Online are truly pioneers in bringing portable broadband wireless access to Africa and have played a significant role in turning the tide for people and businesses in Tanzania," said Roger Dorf, president and chief executive officer of Navini Networks. "The key for BOL is the ability to quickly and easily reach the under-served area with wide coverage."
Dorf added, "They are 'leapfrogging' ahead by going directly to advanced technology like portable broadband wireless access. As Navini Networks is delivering on the vision of mobile WiMAX 802.16e with a commercially viable upgrade path, Benson Online will stay at the forefront."
