LAS VEGAS -- MobiTV, Inc., the global leader in mobile and broadband television and music services, today announced that the latest version of its mobile television service and platform was chosen by Sprint to extend the Sprint-Cable Companies Joint Venture video services to mobile handsets.

"The representatives of the Joint Venture are delivering a new, innovative service that integrates features and content across their services and networks," said Dr. Phillip Alvelda, CEO, chairman and co-founder of MobiTV. "Convergence has been a long sought after goal of the telecommunication industry, and one of MobiTV's core technology and infrastructure development objectives. The participants in this Joint Venture are making this vision a reality, and are directly addressing the needs of consumers by offering television channels and an electronic programming guide wirelessly."

The video aspect of the Joint Venture service includes:

  • Live and on-demand mobile television content from familiar cable television channels.

  • Easy to use and graphically rich mobile information guide that enables quick access to 24 hours of program listings and episode summaries

  • Ability to purchase and view premium channels from within the application

  • Support for the ability to browse the information in cable television electronic program guide that displays customized listings based on the consumer zip code and cable channel line-up

  • Operator-specific application look and feel among tailored channel line-ups

"One of the ways MobiTV has helped us is through the development of a user interface that is easy to use and understand. It allows the consumer to view a screen on their wireless phone that is almost identical to the programming guide on their television at home," said John Garcia, president of the Sprint-Cable Companies Joint Venture. "The unique assets that our partners provide, including MobiTV, will allow the Joint Venture to continue to converge wireless and home entertainment."

Leveraging the expertise, technical leadership and customer focus of Sprint and four of the largest, most successful cable and broadband communications companies, the Joint Venture will provide millions of customers with access to the most advanced integrated entertainment, communications and wireless products available anywhere in the United States.

CES attendees can view a demonstration of the live service, including the upcoming PVR programming capability, at the Scientific Atlanta Booth LVCC #N227 and the MobiTV Booth # 71213.
