Lucent announces contracts with Andinatel in Ecuador, Hondutel in Honduras, and MoviStar P.R. in Puerto Rico

MIRAMAR, Fla. -- Lucent Technologies (NYSE:LU) today unveiled a series of contracts totaling several million dollars with some of its major Latin American customers to provide next-generation technology, software and services.
"More and more of our customers in Latin America are relying on our advanced technology and services to upgrade their networks and deploy new revenue-generating services," said Victor Agnellini, president of Lucent Technologies in the Caribbean and Latin American region. "Today's announcements build on that opportunity and are a result of the strong relationships that Lucent has built with leading service providers across this region and around the world and the strength of Lucent's portfolio."
The company announced contracts with Andinatel in Ecuador, Hondutel in Honduras and MoviStar P.R. in Puerto Rico. These contracts are evidence of Lucent's ongoing commitment to working with its customers to deliver profitable new services for end-users and enterprises. They demonstrate how customers are turning to multi-vendor and professional services expertise, advanced unified communications and multimedia messaging services, and state- of-the-art switching solutions to help grow their business.
Andinatel:
Andinatel, a leading provider of voice, data and Internet services in Ecuador, will deploy Lucent's AnyPath(R) Messaging System, part of Lucent's Accelerate(TM) VoIP Solutions, across 600,000 mailboxes to offer enhanced messaging services, including unified communications, speech services and multimedia messaging. The multi-million dollar project will enable Andinatel subscribers to use voice, touch-tone or computer-based instructions to access, retrieve and manage all their messages (voice, text, photos and video) from a single communication portal through a wireline phone, mobile phone, personal digital assistant or personal computer.
Hondutel:
Hondutel, a leading provider of communication services in Honduras, selected Lucent's equipment, software and services to expand Hondutel's wireline network and make telephone service more widely available throughout the country. The project is designed to modernize Hondutel's infrastructure so it is better able to accommodate current and future demand for telephony services in the country. The expansion also represents a boost to Hondutel's commitment to provide nationwide coverage with state-of-the-art communications services.
MoviStar:
Lucent announced a multi-year contract with MoviStar P.R., a leading mobile communications operator in Puerto Rico, to provide operations and maintenance support for MoviStar's wireless network. Lucent Worldwide Services (LWS) also will provide technical support and software updates for MoviStar's CDMA network.
MoviStar joins some 30 other service providers around the world who are leveraging the expertise of Lucent Worldwide Services in managing complex communications systems to ensure the quality and reliability of their networks. Lucent has signed more than a half dozen contracts with service providers in the CALA region over the last few months, including VIVO and Brasil Telecom.
