OAK BROOK, Ill. -- Looking Glass(R) Networks, Inc., a facilities-based provider of metropolitan data transport services, announced today that Discovery Communications, the leading global real-world media and entertainment company, selected Looking Glass to design and build a private dedicated fiber network in the Washington, DC metro area. The new network provides complete redundancy between Discovery's Headquarters and key data centers, integrates them into Looking Glass' metro and intercity networks, and complements other existing services which Discovery receives from Looking Glass.

"Discovery contracted with Looking Glass because of the company's ability to build a scaleable, secure and reliable private network from the ground up when and where we needed it," said Rod Tomkins, Director, Telecommunications. "Looking Glass' metro expertise and supplier relationships enabled them to meet our design requirements and deliver a managed, end-to-end networking solution on time and within our budget. Looking Glass was a natural fit for Discovery and we are very pleased with the results."

Discovery selected Looking Glass' SolutionsGLASS(SM) services in Washington, DC to connect its Headquarters with two of its important data centers. This connectivity provides a dedicated dual SONET ring which gives Discovery completely redundant fiber rings and opto-electronics. Looking Glass also interconnected the new private networks into Looking Glass' existing networks so Discovery has access to the company's entire footprint in Washington, DC, Northern Virginia and Maryland, including Looking Glass' long haul backbone route from New York to Washington, DC. Discovery is utilizing Type I on-net and Type II off-net circuits in addition to long haul Ethernet and SONET services from Looking Glass.

"With Looking Glass' ability to leverage its own network and integrate it with other providers, we were able to build a robust, cost-effective, and secure private network for Discovery. In addition to the lit services Discovery currently utilizes in the Washington, DC area, they now have access to a much broader network footprint and an even wider variety of services throughout our entire network on the East coast including Washington, DC, Baltimore, Philadelphia and New York," said Nick Lenoci, Vice President, Sales and Marketing, Looking Glass Networks. "Having already proven our capabilities with other customers, Looking Glass was thrilled to have the opportunity to demonstrate our ability to meet and exceed customer expectations to Discovery."
