LONDON -- LogicaCMG today announced it has been chosen to provide next generation Short Messaging Service (SMS) infrastructure to MTC-Vodafone (Bahrain), Bahrain's newest mobile phone operator. MTC-Vodafone in Bahrain will deploy LogicaCMG's Next Generation SMS infrastructure enabling it to offer a high quality of SMS services to its mobile phone customer base.

LogicaCMG won the contract after being selected by MTC-Vodafone Bahrain's network infrastructure provider Siemens Mobile Networks, a global alliance partner of LogicaCMG.

The global leadership position of LogicaCMG in the messaging infrastructure marketplace and its experience of developing and deploying SMS technologies for operators across the globe played a key part in Siemens Mobile Networks and MTC-Vodafone selecting the company.

The next generation SMS infrastructure based on proven technology from LogicaCMG allows MTC-Vodafone to share common management, provisioning and network interfaces, to increase the cost efficiency of its messaging infrastructure by lowering operational and capital expenditure.

The SMS platform also provides the flexibility, features and framework components that MTC-Vodafone needs should it wish to grow the number of messaging applications offered to subscribers and evolve its service portfolio to include richer and more interactive messaging services, such as SMS Voting and Multimedia Messaging.

The scalability of the next generation messaging platform will also allow MTC-Vodafone in Bahrain to easily grow their messaging system in line with forecast messaging traffic and revenues. Additionally this system growth can be achieved without taking messaging systems out of service, ensuring no lost revenue.

Bhanu Sud, Director and General Manager, LogicaCMG Wireless Networks, Middle East & North Africa, said: "Mobile communications is a rapidly growing market in the Middle East and we are delighted to be working with Siemens to pioneer the latest developments. The flexibility and performance of our solutions, along with their ability to maximise revenues, places MTC-Vodafone in an excellent position to accelerate future service growth."

Ismael Fikree, Chief Technology Officer, MTC-Vodafone Bahrain, said: "We are delighted to add LogicaCMG to our increasing stable of cutting edge service providers. MTC-Vodafone said earlier this year we would be committed to providing our customers with creative and exciting products and services at reasonable prices. The agreement with LogicaCMG gives us cost effective solutions and platforms that allow us to be very creative with applications. It is clear to us that as our customer base grows we will need to grow our capacity as well as continue to meet the creative demands of our customers. Our customer research already shows, ahead of our service launch, what our customers really want now and what they aspire to in the future and we believe we are signing up the best and most creative service providers in the market for the complete benefit of our customers."
