OXFORD, Mass. -- IPG Photonics Corporation, the global leader in high power fiber lasers, today announced the introduction of high power fiber-pigtailed laser systems. DL Series systems are turnkey air-cooled systems that provide unequaled reliability, compact design, high wall-plug efficiency, excellent brightness, and operability in a variety of ambient conditions. These features provide the end user with the advantages of both low system and low maintenance costs.

The DL Series is available in output powers of 2 watts up to 100 watts in CW or pulsed operation at the spectral range of 965 nm. The high power fiber-pigtailed laser systems are available in two configurations: the optical module by itself, and a complete, integrated system that includes a compact power supply and fan-based cooler. Both configurations allow for real-time monitoring through standard interfaces, making it ideal for sophisticated, high precision applications.

IPG’s advanced technology is based on the use of highly reliable single-stripe diodes with lifetimes up to 100 times greater than that of diode bars (<10 khr). As a result, the DL Series diode lasers can operate continuously for many years, without TEC cooling, even at ambient temperatures of over 60 ºC.

A further improvement results from connecting the single-stripe diodes in series, as opposed to the parallel connection of diode emitters in diode bars. This serial connection design simplifies diode current regulation and requires a lower total current to drive the laser system. As a result, the DL Series has high wall plug efficiency and a total efficiency close to the electro-optical efficiency of the emitter itself (50-55%).

Dr. Valentin Gapontsev, Chief Executive Officer or IPG added “with output power up to 100 watts, and excellent beam brightness at the end of fiber delivery, our DL Series diode lasers provide long-term, maintenance free operation in a range of ambient conditions with minimal electrical power consumption and trouble-free air-cooling.”
