MENLO PARK, Calif. -- Zensys, developer of the Z-Wave mesh networking technology for wireless home control and automation, today announced it has received a strategic investment from Intel Capital, the venture capital arm of Intel Corporation. The two companies will work together to accelerate development efforts, driving the integration of Z-Wave into millions of consumer electronics devices and further advancing the ubiquity of Z-Wave in the market.
“Wireless home and entertainment control will play a key role in the future of the digital home and we see significant potential for Z-Wave given its interoperability, time-to-market advantage, reliability and low cost,” said Curt Nichols, Vice President and managing director of Intel Capital’s Digital Home Fund. “Working with Zensys and the Z-Wave Alliance, we plan to enable and promote third-party Z-Wave applications that provide convenience, security, entertainment and energy resource management to consumers aligning with Intel’s Digital Home vision.”
Z-Wave is a fully developed, low-cost, interoperable RF-based wireless mesh networking technology that is already available in wireless home control and automation products from leading consumer brands. The Z-Wave Alliance is a consortium of more than 125 companies that are actively developing Z-Wave-enabled products and technologies for residential home control applications. Last week, the Z-Wave Alliance announced the addition of Intel as a principal member, joining an impressive list of industry leaders including Danfoss, Intermactic, Leviton, Monster, Wayne-Dalton, Universal Electronics Inc (UEI) and Zensys.
“Zensys and the Z-Wave Alliance share a vision of the digital connected home,” said Tony Shakib, president and CEO of Zensys. “Intel’s investment and commitment to promoting Z-Wave is a validation of our vision and will enable us to bring reliable and affordable home control solutions to millions of consumers. Working together, we are well positioned to further establish Z-Wave as the standard for wireless home control.”
