RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C. -- Hatteras Networks, a developer of innovative last-mile Ethernet platforms, today announced that it would be the first company to cost-effectively break the service-delivery bottleneck within the last mile of the carrier's network. With its fundamentally new last-mile carrier-grade Ethernet platform called Access Class Ethernet, Hatteras Networks enables carriers to deliver enhanced services, alongside traditional voice and data services, to business customers throughout the access network - over their fiber and copper infrastructure. Access Class Ethernet enables carriers to do something never before possible: Deliver carrier-grade Ethernet services over both the fiber and copper infrastructures at traditional customer serving area (CSA) distances of up to 12,000 feet and beyond. By delivering Ethernet-based services over both fiber and copper, Hatteras Networks enables carriers to increase their potential customer base for high-capacity, high-margin data services by more than tenfold - without requiring a forklift upgrade to their network infrastructure or requiring them to sacrifice existing T1 and TDM service revenues. "Hatteras Networks is delivering application-driven last-mile systems that address the immediate needs and long-term goals of service providers - revenue and new service creation coupled with capital investment and legacy service protection," said Thomas R. McPherson, president and CEO of Hatteras Networks. "By enabling Ethernet delivery across both copper and fiber media, Hatteras Networks will be the first company that enables carriers to fully utilize their access infrastructure to deliver scalable, high-speed services to 100 percent of their current and potential customer base."
