SUNNYVALE, Calif. -- Harmonic Inc. (NASDAQ: HLIT) today announced that the ground-breaking ProStream™ 1000 stream processing platform now includes forward error correction (FEC) support, a critical requirement for high quality video transmission in IP-based networks. Harmonic's FEC engine supports state-of-the-art ProMPEG FEC COP3 transmission and reception of up to 128 services in a one rack-unit (RU) platform, minimizing problems such as packet drops and reordering. The new capabilities help ensure satellite, cable, and DVB-T service providers can maximize reliability and picture quality for a variety of video contribution and broadcast applications.

Introduced in 2006, the dense and highly flexible ProStream platform is increasingly being deployed by service providers for a variety of stream processing needs. It is the world's first multi-functional stream processing system, capable of being configured to support FEC, multiplexing, DiviTrackIP™ statistical multiplexing, ProCipher™ scrambling and descrambling, Mentor™ re-encoding and single frequency network (SFN) transmission over IP. As service providers of all types transition to an increasingly IP-centric infrastructure, Harmonic's solutions make it possible to reduce capital and operating expenditures while increasing the flexibility of the network architecture.

The ProStream 1000 with FEC support is used in conjunction with Harmonic's industry-leading family of DiviCom® high definition (HD) and standard definition (SD) MPEG-4 AVC (H.264) and MPEG-2 encoders to deliver a best-in-class IP-based video experience. The compact and scalable 1-RU ProStream can transmit and receive up to 128 single program transport streams (SPTS) or eight multiple program transport streams (MPTS) with forward error correction.

The new ProStream 1000 with FEC support will be demonstrated at Harmonic's booth #SU9620 at the upcoming NAB2007 exhibition in Las Vegas from April 16-19.
