AMSTERDAM -- Gemtek Systems, the leading manufacturer of carrier-grade, end-to-end public wireless LAN (PWLAN) solutions for fixed and mobile operators, wireless internet service providers (WISPs) and corporates implementing PWLAN access on their private networks, announces today the release of a core member of its innovative product family for2004: The P-560 54Mbit/s scalable "hotspot-in-a-box" supports the IEEE 802.11b+g standard and will be available through the Gemtek Systems reseller channel from January 2004. The recommended retail price is 599 Euro with optional software upgrades.

This 5-in-1 device represents exceptional value for money by combining a Wi-Fi access point, an access controller, an IP router, a VPN gateway for virtual private networks and a managed 4-port 10/100 Ethernet LAN switch into a single compact and tamper-proof unit.

The P-560 supports the new scalable GEOS (Gemtek Systems Enhanced OperatingSystem) operating system which, depending on license selected, supports up to 100 users and up to 16 service providers simultaneously - providing a complete, feature rich solution package that is ideally suited for small to medium-sized hotspot locations. GEOS Software options allow operators to scale their network and to provide Wireless LAN Switching applications for public, private, and hybrid networks as needed.

Gemtek Systems´ P-560 supports various AAA methods such as web browser-based access (UAM), 802.1x/EAP, RADIUS, Smart Clients, and MAC authentication simultaneously. This device is in particular compatible with the roaming recommendations of the Wi-Fi Alliance (WISPr) and the GSM Association.

The "hotspot-in-a-box" has been designed to be compatible with a wide variety of backend systems (OSS/BSS). Furthermore, through it's support for powerful user-friendly features, hotspot end-users now benefit from greatly improved ease of use; this includes not having to make changes to their fixed corporate IP address settings when working at the public hotspot, from the system's ability to meet all their company's security requirements using VPN client pass-through over PPTP or IPsec and from being able to send e-mails with ease thanks to SMTP redirection.

In addition to its cost-effectiveness advanced security, scalability and user-friendly feature-set, as one would expect in a carrier-grade product, the P-560 offers full remote configuration, performance monitoring, and fault management over secure protocols. As a result, the P-560 makes small and large scale networks easy to operate - contributing directly to the Carrier's bottom line through low ongoing total cost of ownership (TCO).
