MUNICH -- At Bavarian cardiovascular hospital Lauterbacher Muehle Munich-based WLANsoftware provider Garderos is demonstrating the performance of its software under thedemanding requirements of a healthcare facility. With this move, the Siemens spin-off isgaining further traction in a market that offers the potential for extremely high growth.Garderos Software Innovations GmbH is implementing its access control and billingsoftware for wireless broadband networks at the privately owned Lauterbacher Muehlehospital in the Bavarian town of Seeshaupt. The software enables the hospital, whichspecializes in the prevention and rehabilitation of cardiovascular illnesses, to offer itspatients simple and secure access to emails, the Internet and intranets – and tooptimally position itself in the competition for patients. Within this project, Garderos iscollaborating with Siemens Information and Communication Networks (ICN).

What was especially convincing to hospital manager Erwin Ott was the solution’s highflexibility. "We wanted to offer our patients an especially user-friendly and secureWLAN-service. We have teamed up with Garderos, because its software does not onlyenable secure VPN Internet access for notebook or PDA, but also to-the-second-billingof online-costs incurred. Furthermore, it can be managed time and cost efficiently –another reason why we have decided in favor of Garderos."

Garderos CEO Hans Christensen views Lauterbacher Muehle Hospital as anothermilestone within a high-growth market segment. U.S.-based market research firm Frost& Sullivan expects revenues in the hospital WLAN market to grow to nearly 100 millionU.S. dollars by 2007. "In a few years time, the majority of hospitals will be offeringWLAN services. At Lauterbacher Muehle and another major hospital project, we’vedemonstrated that Garderos already numbers among the technology leaders in this fieldtoday."
