Fujitsu Network Communications adds carrier-class Gigabit Ethernet services to its Flashwave 4500 platform
June 3, 2002
ATLANTA -- Fujitsu Network Communications, Inc., the market leader in the optical telecommunications market, today unveiled the latest release of its next generation FLASHWAVE® 4500 multiservice optical transport platform that has been optimized to pack the industry's highest drop capacity into a space and power saving design. No other equipment vendor can match the Ethernet and Time Division Multiplexing (TDM) functionality, service density and configuration flexibility available today in the FLASHWAVE 4500 next-generation platform-a system specifically optimized for Interoffice Facility (IOF) transport networks. This new FLASHWAVE 4500 release introduces a number of significant enhancements to the market-leading, SONET, Multiservice-Provisioning Platform (MSPP) launched early last year. Enhancements specifically include, a broad range of Ethernet over SONET (EOS) transport services ranging from 10 Mbps to full wire-speed Gigabit Ethernet, a significant increase in density for OC-3 and OC-12 optical units, plus the addition of DS1 interfaces. Together these capabilities enable the platform to be equally at home serving IOF applications, as well as high-capacity access services. All functionality is available immediately."Huge Central Office savings can be realized by reducing operating expenses (OPEX) and capital expenditure (CAPEX) with our FLASHWAVE 4500 platform's grooming and Digital Cross-Connect (DCS) optimization functionality," says Parker Blackwell, vice president of metro marketing. "Grooming is traditionally done with a combination of SONET network elements, very large and expensive digital cross-connect systems, and massive amounts of power, space, HVAC and associated cabling."Fujitsu Network Communications Inc.
