LONDON and ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates -- Emirates Telecommunications Corporation (Etisalat), the major telecom operator in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and SAVVIS, a leading global provider of managed and outsourced IT services, have signed a strategic collaboration agreement.

Under the terms of the agreement, SAVVIS will provide IP VPN connectivity within the UAE to its global customer base. Likewise, Etisalat will serve its growing international blue-chip customer base within the UAE with advanced networking services in Europe, the United States and Asia, through connecting with SAVVIS' global network. Etisalat serves more than 4.5 million customers in its home market(1) and is leading all Arab operators in both international voice circuit capacity and Internet bandwidth capacity, according to a report by leading market research firm, Arab Advisors(2).

The agreement is part of a strategic move by Etisalat to continue to deliver increased value to the business community within the UAE.

Forging new alliances with major international service providers like SAVVIS will enable Etisalat to provide business customers and consumers with leading technologies, increased connectivity and enhanced quality of service in the region.

Etisalat will take advantage of SAVVIS' IP VPN end-to-end services to enhance international connections and ensure faster, more cost-effective services to customers. By plugging into SAVVIS global network, Etisalat can also provide businesses that rely on real-time data with direct links into major financial hubs such as London and New York.

For SAVVIS, teaming up with a tier-one communications provider will enable the company to expand its global footprint in one of the world's fastest growing telecoms and technology markets and to ensure that customers with operations in the Middle East have access to the same level and quality of service as those enjoyed by Europe and North America.

"Etisalat is committed to bringing its customers the latest developments from around the world, and has succeeded in making the UAE a benchmark for the telecommunications industry in the region," said Essa Al Haddad, Executive Vice President of Marketing, Etisalat. "Working with key international vendors like SAVVIS is a natural extension of our strategic plan to enhance the customer experience and to continue to provide our high-profile customer base with cutting-edge services that exceed their needs."

"The UAE is an increasingly important market for our global customers, including a number of international banks we serve," said Richard Warley, Managing Director of EMEA for SAVVIS. "We see the collaboration with Etisalat as an opportunity to further expand our global service offering in a region which is fast becoming a 'hotbed' for advanced IT services. Equally, Etisalat will be able to take advantage of SAVVIS' extensive worldwide footprint to enhance international connections and ensure faster, more cost-effective services to customers in the region."
