SANTA CLARA, Calif. -- Dowslake Microsystems, a pioneer and provider of smart modules for intelligent networks, today announced that Dr. Xin Cheng, founder and former Chairman & CEO of Sorrento Networks (NASDAQ:FIBR) has been appointed President and Chief Operating Officer. "Dr. Cheng is not only an authority in the metro DWDM space but also a successful and persistent no-nonsense business leader. Dr Cheng is a 15 year fiber optic industry veteran spanning the CATV to metro DWDM markets. During his tenure as President of Osicom Technologies, Inc., he founded its optical networking division, which later became Sorrento Networks. The first commercial metro DWDM system was introduced by Dr. Cheng's team at Sorrento in May 1997. Since then, he and his team have expanded the company with extensive product lines and a solid brand name customer base worldwide. In 2000, he was appointed Chairman and CEO of Sorrento Networks.
