Crown Castle International appoints Carl Ferenbach, a managing director of Berkshire Partners and a former board member, to board of directors

HOUSTON -- Crown Castle International Corp. (NYSE: CCI) announced today that the Board of Directors has appointed Carl Ferenbach as a director, filling a vacant position on the board. Mr. Ferenbach, age 60, previously served as a director of Crown Castle from its founding in 1995 to 2001. Mr. Ferenbach was Crown Castle's chairman from 1997-1999. Mr. Ferenbach has been a managing director of Berkshire Partners LLC, a private equity investment firm, since its founding in the early 1980s. Berkshire manages six investment funds with approximately $3.5 billion of capital for equity investments in its targeted sectors. Mr. Ferenbach is also chairman of English, Welsh & Scottish Railway Ltd, Britain's leading freight railroad, and is a director of U.S. Can Corporation. He received an A.B. from Princeton University and an M.B.A. from Harvard Business School. "We are pleased to welcome Carl back to the board," stated John P.
