BARCELONA, Spain -- Brazilian GSM operator Oi today consolidates its position at the forefront of mobile innovation in Latin America with the announcement of plans to rollout a new generation of high accuracy location based services in partnership with CPS.

Oi has enjoyed spectacular customer growth since its launch in 2002 and now serves over seven million customers across the country. The planning for Location Based Services using "Matrix" technology is in line with its mission to bring new and innovative services to market first.

The announcement follows extensive trials involving high accuracy location technology company CPS.

The success of the trials - including testing in dense urban, suburban and rural areas - highlighted the accuracy of Matrix performance across all environments and a range of applications.

Oi said that since matrix has consistent performance with high accuracy and quick response times, it will allow the continuous deployment of several high quality LBS services for both consumer and corporate markets, contributing with ARPU increase and Oi´s innovative image.

CPS CEO Chris Wade said: "Oi shows tremendous commitment to maintaining their lead in developing and launching new and innovative services to their rapidly expanding customer base.

"This latest announcement marks another significant step forward for our Matrix technology. Its powerful combination of low cost, high accuracy and rapid and easy deployment capabilities is making it the natural choice for GSM operators."
