WALTHAM, Mass. -- Colubris Networks, a global provider of intelligent wireless LAN (WLAN) access equipment, has signed an agreement to supply its public access equipment to Swisscom Eurospot, a subsidiary of the Swisscom Group, the national telecommunications carrier of Switzerland. Swisscom Eurospot is the largest pan-European public WLAN (PWLAN) provider of highspeed broadband Internet access at public hotspots located in hotels, conference centers, train stations and airports throughout the region.
According to the agreement, Colubris Networks is supplying its CN3000 and CN300 intelligent access devices for use in the Swisscom Eurospot network of Wi-Fi hotspots. Deployment of the Colubris Networks devices began in September 2003, and more than 12,000 devices have been shipped to date. The Colubris Networks products seamlessly integrate into Swisscom Eurospot's network architecture and back-end systems, ensuring that users receive a rich, transparent, easy-to-use and reliable Wi-Fi experience.
After completing a competitive search, Swisscom Eurospot selected the Colubris Networks public access products for their ability to enable a broad array of services within a simple, cost-effective and scalable architecture. The Colubris Networks public access products exceeded the stringent requirements of the Swisscom Eurospot engineering, network operations and support staffs. The world's first access controller to incorporate access point functionality, the Colubris Networks CN3000 can be augmented with the CN300 intelligent access point in large venues where additional coverage is needed. The combination of the CN3000 and CN300 provide a comprehensive hotspot solution for a broad range of location types and sizes.
Swisscom Eurospot expands Colubris Networks' list of more than 400 service provider and enterprise customers and partners worldwide, including Telecom Italia, NTT-ME, McGill University, STSN, Connexion by Boeing, the Resort Municipality of Whistler, and three of the world's largest hotel chains.
Swisscom Eurospot has contracted more than 1,900 proprietary hotspots in France, Italy, the UK, Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg, Spain and Portugal. As the region's leading Wi-Fi hotspot service provider, it offers the entire spectrum of services for PWLAN hotspots - installation, operations and billing.
