COLUMBIA, Md. -- CODEON Corporation, a leading designer andmanufacturer of state-of-the-art modulators, optical transponder componentsand modules for the fiber optic telecommunications industry, todayannounced CIENA Corporation has selected its 12.5 Gb/s Intensity Modulator, part of CODEON’s Mach-10TM product family, for use within the MultiWaveCoreStream product. The CoreStream 10 Gb/s WDM transceiver usesout-of-band forward error correction (FEC) requiring the additionalbandwidth provided by the Mach-10TM modulator.CODEON modulators are distinguished by several key attributes includingbroad frequency response, long-term bias stability, low RF drive voltage, and all are hermetically packaged an environmental and long-termreliability advantage not provided by all component manufacturers. Each ismade of lithium niobate, a proven optoelectronic material that providessuperior performance for metro, regional, and long-haul optical transportapplications.Commenting on today’s announcement, Chris Crespi, Managing Director, SeniorResearch Analyst at Banc of America Securities, stated, “The selection ofCODEON by CIENA for supply of modulators clearly shows that CODEON not onlyhas the rare expertise to develop quality devices but can also be a bigleague supplier to a leader like CIENA."Codeon Corp.
