CDMA continues to dominate North American wireless landscape
July 28, 2008
COSTA MESA, Calif. -- The CDMA Development Group (CDG) today announced that CDMA continues to be the dominant technology in North America—with 140 million cdmaOne™ and CDMA2000® subscribers in the region. In North America, the CDMA market share is 51% and, as of March 2008, represents 31% of total CDMA subscribership worldwide. CDMA2000’s 17% compound average growth rate (CAGR) is being driven by widespread adoption of 1xEV-DO Revision A (Rev. A) and advanced wireless broadband services.
“CDMA2000’s continued growth and success in North America affirms the technology’s superior performance, utility and reliability,” said Perry LaForge, executive director of the CDG. “CDMA2000’s industry-leading advanced mobile broadband services are becoming an indispensible part of people’s lives and they’ll continue to shape demand well into the future as the technology continues to be enhanced. The value of CDMA operators’ core network assets and services will be further increased when they are among the first in the world to complement their 3G CDMA networks with wider-bandwidth OFDM-based solutions, such as LTE and Mobile WiMAX.
