REDWOOD CITY, Calif. -- BigBand Networks, Inc. (NASDAQ:BBND - News), today announced that it has been awarded the prestigious telecommunications sector-specific TL 9000 certification. TL 9000 defines a strict set of standards for the design, development, production, installation, and maintenance of telecommunications products, software, hardware or services. BigBand’s TL 9000 certification, including ISO 9001:2000 recognition, is the culmination of an 18-month design and review of internal processes. Its successful completion is a testament to BigBand’s commitment to meet the quality, performance and reliability requirements of its customers.

“TL 9000 certification officially recognizes BigBand’s solutions as carrier-class,” said David Heard, BigBand’s chief operating officer. “The TL 9000 process is demanding, and not every company is able to meet its requirements. BigBand’s certification underscores its ability to continue to support some of the most advanced, large-scale video service rollouts in the world.”

For BigBand’s customers — more than 200 service providers worldwide — TL 9000 compliance is designed to increase supply chain efficiencies and improve the quality and reliability of services delivered to end-users. TL 9000 also provides a basis for objective product and supplier evaluations, allowing service providers to make fully informed supply decisions.

“As the demand for new, advanced video services continues to accelerate, so do the competitive pressures for service providers to significantly expand available content while maintaining high picture quality and system uptime,” continued Heard. “The rigors of the TL 9000 processes help BigBand deliver products that address these competitive requirements for service providers.”
