HONG KONG -- In a move that continues its leadership in Mobile WiMAX, Beceem Communications (www.beceem.com) today announced the immediate availability of the industry's first baseband and RF chipset that supports all features of the Mobile WiMAX Wave 2 Profile. The BCS200 chipset, which includes advanced smart antenna technologies such as MIMO and beamforming plus Beceem's CMOS direct conversion radio, continues to set the industry standard for performance.

The BCS200 solution provides significant performance improvements that positions Beceem as the leading company to meet the launch requirements of WiMAX service providers focused on Wave 2, such as Sprint Nextel.

Key performance benchmarks over MS120 solution include:

  • Greater than 25 Mbps total throughput

  • More than 25% reduction in active power consumption

  • Greater than 60% footprint reduction enabling WiMAX integration into space constraint applications such as mobile phones and consumer electronics

"Beceem was first to release a Wave 1 chipset and we are continuing our leadership in Mobile WiMAX with the introduction of BCS200 chipset as the first Wave 2 solution" said David Patterson, Vice President of Marketing at Beceem. "By enabling our customers to deliver commercial devices with MIMO capability in the 2nd half of 2007, our BCS200 captures the 'sweet spot' of the Mobile WiMAX market."
