France Telecom Router deal is Avici's first commercial contract in Europe; appoints EMEA manager

PARIS -- Avici Systems (Nasdaq:AVCI -news), a leading provider of scalable core routingsolutions for intelligent IP-over-optical networks, has established itspresence in Europe by winning its first commercial contract.France Telecom R&D has selected Avici's scalable router for inclusion inthe VTHD (Vraiment Tres Haut Debit or very high bandwidth) experimentalnetwork, amulti-vendor platform created to support next-generation Internettechnology researched and co-founded by France Telecom and the Frenchgovernment (RNRTprogram).The TSR® will enable the evaluation of a high throughput router combinedwith advanced traffic engineering solutions, technologies that willprovide the essentialfoundation for future deployment of high value-added IP services.
"The VTHD network represents a major step towards the implementation ofthe second-generation Internet," said Dominique Delisle, IP programdirector at FranceTelecom R&D. "We are looking for solutions that fit the increasing needfor high throughput and advanced traffic engineering solutions, and theTSR is a seriouscandidate for that."
