Arris Launches 'Hitless' CMTS Software
Arris introduces Cadant C4 CMTS release 3.3 with hitless software updates that eliminate network downtime
March 16, 2004
DULUTH, Ga. -- ARRIS (NASDAQ: ARRS) today announced that it has declared General Availability (GA) on the Cadant® C4 CMTS Release 3.3 software. This software further enhances the capabilities of the industry-leading C4 CMTS by enabling the installation of maintenance software updates on a non service effecting basis.
“We are extremely pleased at achieving yet another industry first milestone with our hitless software update feature,” said Tim Doiron, Senior Director, Product Management. “We were able to successfully leverage our carrier-class redundant architecture and our FlexCAM™ RF sparing technology in order to deliver non service affecting software updates with Release 3.3 system software.”
With Release 3.3 software, network availability and customer satisfaction are both increased through elimination of planned network downtime caused by installation of maintenance software loads. By allowing updates to occur outside traditional early morning maintenance windows, cable operator logistics and planning are drastically simplified.
In addition to non service affecting software updates, Release 3.3 also provides for increased cable modem and multimedia terminal adapter (MTA) scalability, additional denial-of-service (DOS) attack counter-measures which provide significant additional system security, and numerous Layer 3 router extensions. ARRIS has declared Release 3.3 Generally Available (GA) following testing in the ARRIS 32,000 cable modem scaling lab and extensive field trials with multiple cable operators in North America, Europe and Latin America.
