AirWalk Communications announced a femtocell solution for CDMA voice and data coverage for the home or small office

RICHARDSON, Texas -- AirWalk Communications, an innovator of 3G IP Radio Access Networks (RAN), today announced a femtocell solution for CDMA voice and data coverage for the home or small office.
AirWalk’s femtocell is a low-cost consumer IP-RAN designed to be located inside a building or home. It integrates directly into an operator’s existing radio access network through a residential broadband connection. These dedicated indoor cells are set to become an integral part of an operator’s architecture by delivering improved in-home voice and data service to consumers. Operators benefit from increased network capacity without additional macrocell expansion, and calls established in the home will handoff seamlessly to the traditional macro network. Small enterprises will benefit from improved indoor coverage provided by AirWalk femtocell clusters.
“Our extensive experience with pico and micro IP-RAN technologies uniquely qualifies AirWalk to create an integrated all-in-one femtocell access product,” said Serge Pequeux, president and CEO of AirWalk. “These inexpensive home cells enable operators to reduce large scale network rollouts while improving home coverage. The convenience of one wireless device supporting both in-building and urban cellular service is very appealing to users. With femtocells CDMA operators can deliver an alternative to dual-mode access points.”
AirWalk’s advanced femtocell architecture combines the Base Station Transceiver (BTS), Base Station Controller (BSC) and network interfaces in one compact platform. This plug-and-play unit connects directly to a DSL or set- top-box and auto-configures itself to the operator’s network. By decentralizing the backhaul costs wireless operators can maximize their quality of service and continue to substitute fixed services in the residential market.
