BOCA RATON, Fla. -- Airspan Networks Inc (NASDAQ – AIRN) today announced that it has obtained Certification of its MicroMAX Base Station in the 3.5GHz FDD WiMAX profile from the WiMAX Forum.

With today’s announcement, Airspan continues to build upon one of the most complete and extensive certified WiMAX offerings in the industry. MicroMAX will be commercially offered across TDD and FDD bands at 3.3-3.5GHz TDD, 5.8GHz TDD and 3.5GHz FDD. With this certification, which follows Airspan’s recently-announced successful participation in the WiMAX mobile plugfest, Airspan continues to demonstrate its commitment to certification and interoperability for both mobile and fixed WiMAX profiles.

Airspan first announced the launch of its MicroMAX base station in March 2006, and it has been aggressively pushing all of its WiMAX products towards WiMAX Certification to assure its customers that true interoperability will be a cornerstone of Airspan products. This base station is based on the high-performance SQN2010 WiMAX Forum CertifiedTM base station system design of Sequans, and was the first cost-optimized, pay-as-you-grow WiMAX solution available in the market place. It is designed to be located on utility poles or roof tops, providing point-to-multi-point WiMAX coverage from an all-outdoor base station to various subscriber station types, including Airspan’s self-installable EasyST indoor and ProST outdoor subscriber stations. MicroMAX can be managed by Airspan's SNMP-based network management system (Netspan) using standard and Airspan MIBs or by a Web-based management system using standard Web browsers. It offers Service Providers and Network Operators a unique value proposition of very high performance at a very affordable price.

Alastair Westgarth, Airspan’s Chief Technology Officer, commented: "With this achievement, Airspan continues to demonstrate that it is the leader in WiMAX certification of its systems. Interoperability is a measure of success for Airspan and the WiMAX industry at large, and is essential to the success of both Fixed and Mobile WiMAX. Airspan’s goal is to make deployments of WiMAX networks easy, and by using our WiMAX Forum CertifiedTM products, our customers are assured of that result."
