SUNNYVALE, Calif. -- Saladin Technical Services (STS), the UK provider of comprehensive technical security solutions, has selected wireless LAN (WLAN) security and troubleshooting tools from AirMagnet to identify security holes and performance problems in its customers' wireless networks. STS is using AirMagnet Laptop Trio to proactively detect more than 100 types of potential WLAN problems, including rogue devices, rogue access points and hack attacks. AirMagnet's solution also allows STS to test, monitor and report on the underlying causes of poor performance of its users'WLANs.

STS designs and manages end-to-end security solutions for companies operating in 'at risk' sectors, such as defence and financial services.

Using AirMagnet's portable solution, its team of security surveillance specialists can gain a transparent view of its customers' 802.11a/b/g WLANs, can pin down both existing and potential problems, and can take immediate remedial action to ensure networks are always airtight. In its trials of AirMagnet Laptop Trio, STS detected and diagnosed more than 100 new types of illicit devices attempting to access its customers' networks and was able to provide comprehensive analysis on these threats to its customers.

"Traditional WLAN analysis tools limited STS to just identifying and locating existing security loopholes, leaving us unable to provide further information about the wider WLAN environment or potential threats to wireless security and performance," said Tony Crilly, managing director, Saladin Technical Services. loo"UsingAirMagnet technology, our surveillance teams can dig deeper into WLANs, whether in offices, homes or even private jets. By identifying general performance issues and alerting against tomorrow's likely threats, we are able to offer our clients major reassurance that security is solid."

"It is essential that security experts such as STS meet customer expectations to protect sensitive information from accidental exposure and malicious attack," said Rich Mironov, vice president of marketing, AirMagnet. "They must not only highlight network problems, but also have the specific tools to identify and analyse security vulnerabilities in end-user networks. We are pleased that a team with a track record of successfully handling mission critical security surveillance assignments has selected AirMagnet's tools for this specialist role, and that this technology is already fixing a significant chink in the corporate armour."
