SANTA BARBARA, Calif. -- Agility Communications, Inc., the award-winning manufacturer of widely tunable lasers for metro, switching, and long-haul markets, announces today the Agility 3205 CW Widely Tunable Laser Assembly(TM) (TLA), a high-powered 20-mW widely tunable laser that can rapidly tune to 200 C-band channels at 25-GHz spacing. Agility is delivering the first commercially viable, solid-state widely tunable laser in a multi-sourced footprint. The 3205 TLA offers a significant reduction in size from Agility's existing 10-mW product and a dense 40-pin connector. In an accompanying release, the company has also announced its first multi-source agreement (MSA) with a consortium of leading widely tunable laser companies to develop products at this reduced footprint. The Agility 3205 TLA is designed for use in dense wavelength division multiplexer (DWDM) systems spanning the entire C-band, providing tunability for 200 ITU channels with 25-GHz spacing. The Agility 3205 is available in a multi-source compliant footprint. Agility's patented SG-DBR laser is monolithically integrated with a semiconductor optical amplifier (SOA). The SOA can operate as a variable optical attenuator (VOA) to pre-emphasize output power for optimum system performance, thereby reducing system cost. The Agility 3205 also incorporates a wavelength locker, beam blanking to eliminate spurious emissions during switching, and self-contained microprocessor control and monitoring of electronics. "With the announcement of the 3205 TLA, Agility demonstrates its technology leadership in the market with a product that offers considerable cost and performance advantages," said Arlon Martin, vice president of sales and marketing, Agility Communications. "We are continuing to gain traction in the industry, and with the new footprint, the 3205 gives Agility a even stronger lead in this market. We are extremely proud of our achievements and are delighted to be able to launch this product into the market." Agility Communications Inc.
