BEIJING -- Agility Communications, Inc., the leader in providing widely tunable lasers for the metro-core, switching, and long-haul markets, today announced the company's entry into the Chinese optical networking marketplace through a distribution agreement and partnership with Luster Lightwave. Under the agreement, Luster Lightwave will serve as Agility's distribution partner in China, expanding Agility's sales and support and increasing its market leadership position as the company continues to ramp up production volume of its award-winning widely tunable lasers. According to leading industry analyst firm RHK, the Asia-Pacific market for optical networking equipment should grow from $3.5 billion to $4.8 billion by 2005. Headquartered in Beijing, Luster Lightwave is an aggressive startup serving the metro and long-haul markets in China. Luster Lightwave distributes optical components for several North American companies including CODEON Corp., WaveSplitter Technologies, and TeraXion. Through the agreement announced today, Luster Lightwave will resell Agility's widely tunable lasers to China-based system vendors looking for increased bandwidth solutions. "We're thrilled to be partnering with a leader such as Agility to provide the Chinese market with the best widely tunable laser technology available today. There is a huge market opportunity in China as the demand for optical networking components that address the deployment of bandwidth on demand is increasing and will continue to grow," said Dr. Yates Y.
