May 7, 2002
LAS VEGAS -- Agere Systems (NYSE: AGR.A), the world leader in communications components, today announced the industry's most complete line of small-form-factor (SFF) transceivers for developers of SONET/SDH-based optical networking systems. Part of Agere's NetLight(r) transceiver portfolio, this new family of high-speed pin-through-hole transceivers offers systems designers a single source for cost-effective, high-performance devices. Announced here at the Networld+Interop (N+I) Conference, Agere's NetLight NLT series covers transmission speeds from OC-3 (155 megabits-per-second) to OC-48 (2.5 gigabits-per-second) at distances from two to 80 kilometers. These transceivers are optimized for high-density, high-speed data transport in metropolitan and access networks. "Systems manufacturers are increasingly interested in qualifying a single vendor to supply products for all reaches and speeds, and Agere's NetLight portfolio provides the broadest line of SONET-based pin-through-hole transceivers to serve any market need," explained Mark Granahan, vice president of Agere's Optical Access and Transport division. "The industry is progressively embracing incremental capital expenditure models that focus on upgrading basic systems, and these products offer systems makers the design flexibility to enable a variety of network configurations and service offerings for service provider customers."
