Introduces EtherNID line-powered intelligent demarcation device for Ethernet services
May 18, 2005
MONTREAL -- Accedian Networks Inc. announced today the introduction of the EtherNID(TM), industry's first LINE-POWERED Intelligent Demarcation Device for Ethernet Services (patent pending).
Accedian’s EtherNID(TM) is powered using IEEE 802.3af compliant Power Over Ethernet (PoE) thus extending the reliability of the Carrier’s 48V power plant all the way to the customer’s IT closet and avoiding dependency on customer-provided power at the service delivery location.
On top of implementing standards-based Ethernet OAM (Operations, Administration and Maintenance) and loop-backs to extend the Carrier’s Network visibility up to the customer’s premises, the EtherNID(TM) implements Carrier must-have features such as a Transparent Fail-over Bypass and is optimized for “High-Performance” Ethernet with its unique Fast-Thru(TM) architecture for ultra-low latency and packet-jitter, thus making it ideal for the delivery of Video and VOIP over Ethernet.
“Carriers want to extend the reach of their Ethernet Network OAM up to the service delivery point but won’t sacrifice network reliability to achieve this”, said Patrick Ostiguy, CEO of Accedian Networks, “by providing line-power capabilities along with a transparent fail-safe bypass mechanism, the EtherNID(TM) answers this need and provides the level of reliability that Carriers have come to expect from traditional demarcation devices.”
