LONDON -- The Fixed-Mobile Convergence Alliance (FMCA), a global alliance of telecom operators with the objective of accelerating the development of fixed-mobile convergence products and services, has contracted with IDC to assess the challenges and opportunities presented by convergence globally over the next five years.

The project will support an FMCA workstream designed to assess the market opportunity for fixed-mobile convergence products and services. IDC will supply the FMCA with the following services:

  • Provide an industry standard definition of fixed-mobile convergence services.

  • Quantify the current and future global convergence opportunity, detailing key segments and regional markets.

  • Forecast the total number of convergence subscribers and the market share that convergence will capture of the total telecommunications sector.

  • Identify customer-facing convergence offers that will result in the fastest value-maximizing take up of convergence among consumers and business customers.

A first analysis will be available for download on the FMCA Web site by the fourth quarter of 2005.
